Barclay Frost was a multi-sport star athlete at Lisgar Collegiate Institute. During his 34-year elementary school teaching career, he was active as a coach,convener and sports association president. He shared his passion and enthusiasm for sport in his community as a coach in minor hockey, softball, and track and field, as well as an umpire in softball and a referee in basketball.

But it is track and field where Frost made his greatest contribution as an official. In 2017, Frost will celebrate his 50th year as a level 5 (highest international level) referee specializing in high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jump.

His dedication to overseeing a fair competition has taken him across Canada. His list of achievements includes officiating at the 1976 Summer Olympics, the 2015 Pan Am Games, World Junior and Senior Championships, the 1988 World University Games, and seven Canada Summer Games.

But Frost hasn’t forgotten his roots, serving as chief field referee at the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association high school meets for more than 30 years. A member of the Goulbourn Sports Wall of Fame, Frost received the Ottawa Sports Awards dinner Lifetime Achievement Award for Technical Official in 2003.
