Donald ‘Don’ John Loney

Donald ‘Don’ John Loney (deceased) played junior and service football in Montreal and Halifax. Played pro in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary; captain for Rough Riders three years; winner of two Grey Cups. Retired in 1955. Jeff Russel Trophy winner in 1950. Frequent All-Star, once All-Canadian. Credited with resurgence of football in the Maritimes.

He is a member of St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. He is a member of the Canadian Forces Sport Hall of Fame. He was inducted into Canada’s Sports Halls of Fame in 1988.
