Rev. Gilbert Ovila Julien (deceased) graduated with a Degree of Bachelor of Theology from the University of Ottawa in 1913.  He began his journalist career in 1916 with Le Droit reporting on sports and municipal matters. He was later an educator having taught at the University of Ottawa.

He called commonly ‘Gil-O’ and died in 1938. In 1948 Le Droit created the Gil.O.Julien trophy honoring the best French Canadian athlete in the region. This trophy was awarded for almost 40 years.

The Gil O Julien Park located at 201 Donald Street, Ottawa, Ontario honors the memory of Mr. Julien.
