Although totally blind Jacques Pilon became one of world’s finest runners.  He launched his competitive career in 1975 and won five national 800, 1500 and two 5000m titles.  Gold and silver at the 1978 Pan-Am Games for the disabled, gold in the 1980 Blind Olympics.  First blind runner to crack three-hour time 1983 National Capital Marathon with 2:58:53.  Set world, national records in 800, 500 and 5000 metres.  First blind athlete to compete in Ottawa Indoor Games.  Served as the president of the Ontario Blind Sports Association in 1977.
