James ‘Jack’ patrick Varaleau (deceased) was a weightlifter. He represented Canada at the 1948 Olympics, placing sixth and broke Olympic press record. He also participated in 1952 Olympics. He won the British Empire title in 1948 and won the Gold medal in the 82.5kg class at the 1950 B.E. Games in New Zealand. Voted top French Canadian athlete in 1950. Assistant manager-coach for 1960 Rome Olympics weightlifting team. Also member of Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame (1971).
