Member of Ottawa Rough Riders in 1981 as well as 1983-1985, before joining Toronto Argonauts for one season. Selected MVP in 1981 Grey Cup game. Set Riders record for most passing attempts in one season, 439, and most pass completions in one season, 236, (1985). Led University of Oklahoma Sooners to two Big-Eight championships and Orange Bowl victories (1980 and 1981). Chosen MVP in both Bowl games. Elected to U.S. Congress in 1994, serving until 2002. Chairman of J.C. Watts Companies.
