A prominent boxer in the 1940s, he won the Quebec Golden Gloves and reigned as Canadian Amateur bantam weight champion in 1940. He fell short in his bid to earn a berth on the 1948 Canadian Olympic team when he lost his final bout, fourth fight in 24 hours. Although considered by his peers as one of the best in his weight class, he never turned pro.
