Michael ‘Mike’ Chambers’ sports journey began at the Rideau Canoe Club, where he served as a Board member from 1981 to 2001, and Commodore from 1991 to 1994. He was elected to the Board of the Canadian Canoe Association in 1983, and was chosen as Commodore in 1986. He is a founding Board Member of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Race Festival, serving from 1994 to 2001.

He joined the Board of the Canadian Olympic Committee in 1984, where he served as President from 2001 to 2010 and was Chef de Mission at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Chambers was a Vice Chair of the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee and VANOC Board member.

He was a member of the TO2015 Board, Pan American Sport Organization Executive Committee, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Working Groups, and the Executive Council of Association of National Olympic Committees, Chambers has received the IOC Olympic Order, the Canadian Olympic Order, and is a member of the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
