Junior High School and Volunteer Coach

In 2009, Glashan Public School named the gymnasium after Rick Desclouds, its coach of 37 years, in honour of his commitment to the school’s sports teams—including volleyball, cross country, and track and field. Under his charge, Glashan teams won 112 Ottawa Board championships. In volleyball, the Spikers captured 32 Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Athletics Association boys’ volleyball titles and 10 Ontario Cup titles. A number of his students went on to play high school and university volleyball, including Pat Thomas, who made the Canadian men’s team. Desclouds also coached Glashan to 18 track and field team titles and 18 cross-country running team championships.

Desclouds also coached baseball with Pinecrest Little League winning 16 district titles from 1973-1997, three Ontario championships in 1986, 1987 and 1988, and competing in three Canadian championships.
