Don M. Gamble (deceased) played football as well as senior and university hockey. He assisted in organizing many recreation activities in the Metcalfe, Ontario area. He began employment with the City of Ottawa in 1967. He rose to the position of Commissioner of Recreation and Culture which he held until his retirement in 1994.

Under his initiative the City of Ottawa added 5 arenas, 7 community centres and 2 pools. He was instrumental in forming the Grey Cup Caravan (football) as well as the construction of the new baseball stadium and bringing Triple A baseball to Ottawa. His expertise and leadership had an impact on most areas of the local sports community.
