Dr. Alexander Smirle Lawson (deceased) learned the game of football as a student at Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa, Ontario and later continued playing with the University of Toronto. He was a great ball carrier and original “Big Train” of Canadian football. Starred with Varsity when they won Grey Cups in 1909 and 1910. In 1914, he was with the Toronto Argonauts’ Grey Cup team.
