John ‘Johnny’ Francis Quilty (deceased) was an outstanding all-around athlete at St. Pat’s High School in Ottawa, excelling in wrestling, boxing, football, and hockey. Sought by Rough Riders but opted for pro hockey. Played minor pro Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and then moved to the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens in 1940. Calder Trophy winner as NHL Rookie of Year 1941 as he scored 18 goals, 16 assists. NHL career record of 36 goals, 34 assists.
